Reporting to the Manager, Platform Engineering, the candidate provides technical leadership and specialist expertise required for the operation of Telesat’s development and test platforms. The candidate will be responsible for monitoring and ensuring high quality standards of software throughout the systems development lifecycle. The candidate will work closely with the DevSecOps and development teams, and represent Platform Engineering in client meetings. The candidate will be required to develop metrics and presentations on results and trends, and be able to explain them to both a technical and non-technical audience.
Candidates must live in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify.
Candidates must be willing to be onsite in office three (3) days per week.
Main Responsibilities
- Development and execution of test plans, test cases and scripts
- Development of automated test scripts and code that performs functional, performance, load as well as limits testing
- Development of test metrics and reporting capabilities
- Design, implement and maintain testing strategies and procedures
- Document and own the test processes and strategies
- Manage and lead a team of testers to ensure high-quality testing is delivered on time
- Coordinate with project managers and developers to ensure testing requirements are met
- Collaborate with the Platform Engineering team to ensure correct configuration and architecture of environments and tooling required for Test Engineering
- Track and monitor testing metrics, including code coverage, defect density, and testing progress
- Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to manage and prioritize testing efforts
- Development of reporting mechanisms and trending of testing efforts
- Work with the DevSecOps team to ensure test processes are implemented within the toolchain
- Passionately advocate for test engineering and quality practices within the organization
- Attend and present at ongoing project meetings and team standups on test activities, metrics and ongoing test and QA status
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Proven experience in managing and leading teams
- Experience developing/using load testing tools and services such as BlazeMeter
- Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, and processes
- Experience in Agile and DevOps methodologies
- Proven experience and in-depth knowledge of Cloud-based infrastructure and testing environments
- Proven experience in scripting (e.g. Python, Javascript, Powershell)
- In-depth experience in Linux-based server environments
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple demands with time related constraints in a fast-paced environment
- Prioritize and schedule work as necessary to maintain department standards and service level agreements
- Ability to speak effectively before groups of internal employees, communicate technical information, create, and deliver presentations and information sessions to both technical and nontechnical personnel
- Ability to create and maintain documentation and training materials, for technical staff and end-user audiences.
- Capable of organizing projects effectively to achieve the desired results.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
