Senior Test Engineer

Reporting to the Platform & Test Engineering Lead, the candidate will design, operate and maintain all test automation, scripts, code and processes required for the operation of Telesat’s development and test platforms. They will be responsible for the automation and continuous testing of a comprehensive, integrated, state of the art software suite built over the Cloud native platform. 

Candidates must live in the Ottawa area or be willing to relocate to Ottawa. Relocation assistance will be provided to those who qualify. 

Candidates must be willing to be onsite in office three (3) days per week. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Development and execution of test plans, test cases and scripts 
  • Development of automated test scripts and code that performs functional, performance, load as well as limits testing 
  • Design, implement and maintain testing strategies and procedures 
  • Document test processes and strategies 
  • Track and monitor testing metrics, including code coverage, defect density, and testing progress 
  • Development of reporting mechanisms and trending of testing efforts 
  • Work with the DevSecOps team to ensure test processes are implemented within the toolchain 
  • Attend and present at ongoing project meetings and team standups on test activities, metrics and ongoing test and QA status 

Education & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or related field 
  • 3-6 Years proven experience in a similar role.
  • Proven experience managing and leading teams. 
  • Strong knowledge of testing methodologies, tools, and processes 
  • Experience developing/using load testing tools and services such as JMeter/Blaze Meter 
  • Experience in Agile and DevOps methodologies. 
  • Experience with continuous integration tools for build and deploy. 
  • Experience in API automation using common tools. 
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for test environment optimization. 
  • Proven experience and in-depth knowledge of Cloud-based infrastructure and testing environments 
  • Proven experience in scripting (e.g. Python, JavaScript, Powershell) 
  • In-depth experience in Linux-based server environments 
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, including knowledge of statistical concepts such as percentiles, medians etc. 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills. 

Decision Making & Supervision

  • Work under minimal supervision. 
  • Make decisions and recommendations requiring analysis and interpretation within established procedures. 

Working Conditions

  • Generally comfortable working conditions with lifting and onsite installations. 
  • Moderate visual concentration in use of video display terminal.

  • The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP).
