Telesat is launching a state-of-the-art satellite constellation of highly advanced satellites in low-earth-orbit that will seamlessly integrate with terrestrial networks. The global network will deliver fiber quality throughput anywhere on earth.  We are growing quickly and are currently in need of Senior System Engineering Specialist to join our System Solutions team.
Reporting to the Director, Systems Solutions, the Senior System Engineering Specialist will contribute to the Lightspeed program in conducting advance performance assessment studies for system configurations as needed to provide solution for complex customer needs. Using his / her expertise in satellite communications, orbital configuration and large communication networks, the candidate the candidate will define solutions with enough details to enable implementation across the Lightspeed system.

Role Responsibilities:

  • Develop new solutions to commercial needs using the Telesat Lightspeed system, including among other solutions for low latency high-capacity services, hosted satellite (space relay) services, inter-constellation services, and other new configurations to support opportunities.
  • Provide comprehensive technical solutions to complex problems using Telesat internal and commercially available simulation tools to assess performance of the proposed solution.
  • Interface with other Telesat groups regarding system engineering, satellite payload and ground segment characteristics, definitions of performance metrics, performance evaluations, and regulatory compliance and associated requirements.
  • Develop Concept of Operations associated with new configurations and services and define high level requirements for the implementation.
  • Prepare and manage feature development roadmap in collaboration with commercial and engineering teams.
  • Support detailed studies of system performance validating the concept of operation with respect to the interface between satellite and ground systems.
  • Develop technical documentation and reports.
  • Prepare and deliver high quality technical presentations supporting the delivery of solutions.

Education and Experience required:

  • B. Sc. in Electrical, Computer or System Engineering and a minimum of 15 years of relevant experience in satellite communications or other large communication systems.
  • Good experience in system design, requirement management and communication systems performance assessments.
  • Good understanding of architecture of large communication systems in terms of management and control planes.
  • Knowledge of radio communication systems and/or satellite communication is desirable.

Specialized Skills and Abilities:

  • Creative problem-solver with thorough attention to detail.
  • Experience with STK for orbital analyses.
  • Highly collaborative team-player who can quickly earn the confidence of co-workers and teammates.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • An aptitude for and interest in complex technology.
  • Fluent in English, written and oral.
