OmniAccess Becomes Latest Mobile Provider to Choose Telesat Capacity for Delivery of Advanced Maritime Broadband Services

New Telstar 12 contract enables OmniAccess to serve both superyachts in the Mediterranean and passenger ships operating in Europe’s inland waterways

OTTAWA, CANADA, March 14, 2013 – Telesat, a leading global fixed satellite services operator, announced today that OmniAccess, a leading VSAT service provider and network integrator in the luxury superyacht market, has signed a contract for additional Ku-band capacity on Telesat’s Telstar 12 satellite.

Located at 15 degrees West, Telstar 12 has long been the preferred choice of customers seeking connectivity between the Europe-Middle East region and the United States. Its strong coverage of Europe makes it especially attractive for providers like OmniAccess who have the expertise and ground infrastructure to meet demand for maritime broadband services in the Mediterranean and inland waterways across Europe.

“We are delighted that OmniAccess has chosen Telesat for this large satellite capacity commitment and pleased to enable another premiere mobile provider to meet the growing demand for maritime broadband services,” said Nigel Gibson Vice President, International Sales for Telesat. “OmniAccess is a longstanding Telesat customer with considerable experience and resources to serve superyachts and other vessels in the Mediterranean, European waterways, Caribbean and Americas. OmniAccess’s decision to choose Telstar 12 again confirms that Telesat satellites, whether over the Atlantic or Europe and Middle East region, are highly effective at delivering the latest in mobile broadband solutions.”

“OmniAccess has partnered with Telesat for several years now and we’ve found that their technical expertise and responsiveness provide us with real advantages for capturing new business,” said Bertrand Hartman, CEO of OmniAccess. “We also made the strategic decision to upgrade our capabilities at the OmniAccess Teleport in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, and will access this additional Telstar 12 capacity with iDirect’s powerful new X7 series modem – a world first! This increased commitment to Telstar 12 enhances our expanding global network offering and will enable OmniAccess to deliver superior maritime broadband performance to customers operating in the Mediterranean and on inland waterways across Europe”
