Our Lightspeed System Engineering team defines the performance required of all RF elements in the entire satellite communication system. As a RF Systems Engineer, you’ll be responsible for simulating and modeling the terrestrial and in-orbit communication systems for Lightspeed and support the definition of the architecture.
Main Responsibilities
- Simulate and model communication systems
- Work with system architects, RF engineers, antenna engineers, User Terminal and Landing Station engineers, to partition functions between hardware and software domains
- Model RF link performance and manage link budgets accounting for impairments through the different elements in the system
- Derive specifications for RF links and RF and antenna subsystems
- Characterize and analyze system performance. Develop and maintain performance budgets
- Provide technical support to regulatory, coordination, and market access teams
Education & Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering with emphasis in RF/microwave circuits or communication theory
- At least 5 years of relevant experience RF communication systems
- Knowledge of digital communication systems, spread spectrum, single and multi-carrier techniques, modulation types such as PSK, APSK, QAM
- Specific experience with modulation standard such as DVB-S2X and DVB-RCS2, as well as with Adaptive Coding and Modulation (ACM) methods
- Good experience in MATLAB or other tools for modeling and analyzing RF communication systems
Specialized Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Experience performing analysis and simulation of communication systems
- Thorough understanding of RF passive and active components
- Good understanding of active antenna beam forming technologies including digital beam forming, and fast beam hopping
- Experience characterizing radio performance at microwave frequencies, including rain fade and its effects on the communication links
- Knowledge of RF transceiver architectures and digital communication theory
